Red Dead Redemption 2 Gameplay Trailer Rundown
Posted by cmsadminGG August 13, 2018

There’s only a few months left until the release of Red Dead Redemption 2 and Rockstar Games has released the first of a series of videos previewing the sequel. In the first video, the video introduces viewers to the world of Red Dead Redemption 2 and some of the things players will experience in the new game.

The trailer gives us a glimpse into the open world of Red Dead Redemption 2, set in the late 1800s during the final years of the American frontier and waning years of the “age of outlaws” in what is popularly called the “Old West” or “Wild West.”

“With Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games aims to create a living world that is not simply open, but deeper, more interactive, and detailed than ever – combining action, storytelling and gameplay in new ways as you live, ride, and fight to survive as an outlaw in a notorious gang. The game is an attempt to capture this pivotal moment when the age of outlaws was ending, and the modern world was born.”

There’s a vast, open-world to explore in Red Dead Redemption 2. According to the trailer, the game will feature “harsh mountain trails, dense forests, untamed swamp lands, sweeping desserts, rugged livestock towns, modernizing cities, and more.” The world will also be teeming with a large array of wildlife including wolves, bears, alligators, deer, moose, and more.

Welcome to the Gang

In Red Dead Redemption 2, players toke on the role of Arthur Morgan, a senior member of the Van Der Linde gang and its lead enforcer. The original game’s protagonist, John Marston, and his would-be wife Abigail are also members of the gang during the events of Red Dead Redemption 2.

The gang, led by Dutch Van Der Linde, are always on the move as they attempt to live free of the government’s rule and stay away from its lawmen. Every time they find a new area to settle in, they set up a camp which becomes the gang’s, and the player’s, home base where they “eat, sleep, perform chores, play games, and share stories.”

Players will be able to interact with the gang and the camp in a number of ways, from providing food and supplies that lift the gang’s morale to getting to know each of the gang members to unlock information and even more activities. The camp will most likely be the source of many of the game’s missions and activities.

The Choice is Yours

Red Dead Redemption 2 features a world that’s incredibly interactive. Players will be able to talk to almost anyone and will be able to interact with them in a number of ways depending on the situation. Players will be able to call out to passing riders, either greet or antagonize people, defuse hairy situations, intimidate witnesses into silence, and more.

Players can choose to either escalate or defuse confrontations, form friendships, and make enemies. Just like the previous game, Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature an honor system and the player choices and the results of interactions may have lasting consequences.

Combat, Weapons, and Hunting

When players do end up having to get physical, Red Dead Redemption 2 looks like it’s going to put a lot of emphasis on melee combat. Looking at the trailer, hand-to-hand combat in the game looks like it will involve grappling, takedowns, and other nonlethal actions apart from the usual blocking and striking.

Firearms in Red Dead Redemption 2 will also feature realistic reload and recoil, with each weapon possessing its own unique characteristics. It also looks like players will only be able to carry a limited amount of weapons with them and will be able to switch between them fluidly without any breaks in immersion.

Players will also have access to a bow and arrow, something that fans were sorely missing from the first. Although, the trailer only shows the bow and arrow being used for hunting rather than for actual combat, so it isn’t clear if players will be able to use the bow to silently take down enemies.

Hunting animals in Red Dead Redemption 2 is not only one of the ways players can help out the camp but also a way for them to earn money. If players are unable to take down an animal in a single blow, they’ll be able to track the animal with a new mechanic that displays a trail on the ground that players can follow towards the creature.

Animal pelts, and other items, can be traded in for cash which can then be used at many of the game’s establishments such as general stores, gunsmiths, saloons, and more.

One of the most enjoyable mechanics of the first game were the horse mechanics. In Red Dead Redemption 2, horses will play an even bigger role in the game. Players will be able to build a real bond with their horse by taking care of them, such as brushing their hair and feeding the, making them easier to control and more reliable in tense situations such as combat.

Aside from riding them, players will also be able to lead their horse by the reins while they’re walking. Players will also be able to store extra weapons, supplies, and animal carcasses via the horse’s saddle and saddle bags, showing that players may not have an infinite amount of storage on them.

Lastly, Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature a variety of horse breeds, each being more suited for certain tasks than others, such as workhorses and those used for fast riding.

The video already gives us a lot to look forward to in Red Dead Redemption 2 and Rockstar Games plans to show off even more in its next gameplay trailer, which will include an introduction on missions, enemy gangs, robberies, additional activities, the new Dead Eye System.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is scheduled for release on October 26, 2018, for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
