Square Enix released a new trailer for the upcoming and highly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake during the Sony State of Play last week and it featured quite a number of new things that we’ve yet to see before. It’s been a few years since the Square Enix released the first trailer of the remake so giving more about the upcoming game will definitely help revive the excitement for the game that’s been in development for so long. We’ve listed down five of the new things featured in the latest Final Fantasy 7 Remake trailer.
Updated Character Designs
While the new trailer featured some of the same scenes from the previous one, a lot of its visuals have changed, including the designs of characters like Cloud, Barret, Biggs, and Jessie. The updated visuals are more detailed, less dark, and more colorful. Notably, Cloud’s hair and Barret’s facial hair look significantly better in the new trailer.
New Gameplay UI
The gameplay UI has also been updated, with the command list to the left now featuring button assignments rather than just a plain menu. The character information on the right also looks different, with an adjusted layout and colored bars although none of the bars are labeled like the previous UI.
The Flower Scene
The new trailer also decided to treat fans to one of the more memorable scenes from the original game, the flower scene where Cloud first encounters Aerith during his first mission with Avalanche. It’s also the first time we get a good look at Aerith’s new design and hear both her Japanese and English voice for the remake.
While the previous trailer showed very short clips of Cloud seemingly using special abilities, it’s the new trailer that gave us a clear look at him using a Limit Break from the original game. In one of the sequences in the trailer, Cloud is shown using one of his signature Limit Breaks, Cross Slash.
Our First Look at Sephiroth
Lastly, the new trailer has finally given us our first look at Sephiroth (or his back at least). The last few seconds of the trailer show Sephiroth confronting Cloud in the midst of burning wreckage. While we’re only given a short glimpse at Sephiroth, the new trailer couldn’t have ended any other way to hype up excitement for the remake again other than finally showing its greatest villain.
More information on the FF7 Remake is scheduled to be announced in June, probably during E3, so hopefully we get to see even more of the game including more footage of Sephiroth and the rest of the game’s cast such as Tifa, Red XIII, and more.
