OPPO launched the latest smartphone in the F-series, the OPPO F11 Pro last month. The smartphone featured a full-screen display and a pop-up front camera module that allows the full-screen display.
After seeing the F11 Pro at the launch, we now had an opportunity to try out the phone for ourselves.
The box of the OPPO F11 Pro is what one expects from the company. A white box with the brand on the long sides and an image of the phone on the top of the box. Inside the box is the phone, the adaptor, microUSB cable, headset, a jelly case, SIM ejector tool, and of course the documentation.
While there isn’t much bells and whistles to the box and its content, the OPPO F11 Pro itself is enough to make it worthwhile.
Design and build
At first glance, the F11 Pro looks sleek with its glass front, shiny plastic back, and metallic frame. We were given the Thunder Black color variant of the phone. This color is three-colored gradient design that has purple on the upper right corner and blue on the lower left corner of the rear of the phone. Dividing the two colors is black that cuts through the upper left and runs straight through the lower right corner.
This design not only gives the phone a unique color scheme, but it also makes it look quite elegant. Because of the shiny finish to the plastic back, it is quite the fingerprint magnet.
The rear also features the fingerprint scanner and the vertically aligned dual-camera setup with flash on top. This is also where we find the brand printed on as it runs from the bottom going to the top followed by ‘designed by OPPO’ which a classier way to present the brand logo.
As you turn the phone, you see the 6.5-inch Panoramic display with a slit on the very top for the earpiece. While its front-facing camera pops up from a mechanism on the top of the phone when activated for facial recognition or for selfies. This, of course, is what allows for the full-screen display.
The OPPO F11 Pro is a pretty tall phone but they make up for the height by placing the volume rocker (left side) and the power button (right side) about mid-way on their respective sides of the phone. This makes it easier to wield the phone despite its height even for decent sized hands.
Being a part of the F-series, the OPPO F11 Pro carries on the legacy of being a Selfie Expert while also adding on being able to deliver brilliant portraits.
It retains a dual rear camera setup through a 48MP main and 5MP shooters while its front camera has a 16MP sensor.
The rear camera performs and delivers very well in well-lit environments. While the addition of the Ultra Night Mode makes it a much more reliable shooter at night. The Ultra Night Mode takes long exposure shots even in minimal lighting.
Ultra Night Mode off
Along with the Ultra Night Mode, OPPO also introduced a Dazzle Color Mode which is said to bring more vibrant photos.
Ultra Night Mode on
From initial testing, it looks to deliver quality photos and in both the front and rear photos.
Hardware and Software
The OPPO F11 Pro runs on ColorOS 6 based on Android 9. It is one of the more refined skins of Android. Its minimalistic approach is more navigable even for a first time user of the OS.
Returning to ColorOS 6 is Game Space and Game Assistance, both of which have proven pretty handy. Game Space gives you the ability to customize the resources of the phone depending on the game through profiles. Whether you prefer saving a bit more battery or go all in, Game Space gives you that liberty. While Game Assistance is a nifty window that allows you to take screenshots, record gameplay, toggle notifications, and even reply to messages while in games.
The Helio P70 partnered with Hyper Boost, the company’s own performance boost engine looks to be a good combination for gaming and other heavier tasks. The phone has shown smooth performance on PUBG Mobile even when maxed out in settings.
