Animal Crossing Free July Update: Swimming, Diving, And More!
Posted by Donna Almonte June 30, 2020

It’s been a minute, Animal Crossing fans! If you thought the April update was the last of its kind, think again. By July 3, Animal Crossing: New Horizons gets two major game mechanics added: swimming and diving, so you can add more fishy friends to your Critterpedia.

Explore Sea Life Beyond Fishing from the Shore

There’s a certain joy in catching so much Pokemon, er, creatures and learning fun facts about them. Well, guess what, fellow fans—there’s a lot more entries to fill up now that you’ll be able to swim AND dive in Animal Crossing (just like in previous installments, too).

From spotted garden eels to sea anemones, you’ll find a whole new world to explore out there. This is amazing especially for those who feel like they’ve explored and optimized—forgive me for this—every nook and cranny of their 5-star island.

Meet the Chillest Dude around: Pascal the Sea Otter

Ahh, Pascal! Long-time AC players know him as the philosophical nomad who seeks to explore the Seven Seas, often talking to strangers and imparting wisdom along the way. Speaking of which…

If you’ve been looking for a way to spruce up your home, say no more—Pascal’s will give you a bunch of new mermaid-themed recipes so you can finally feel like a Disney Princess.

Help Gulliver the…Pirate?

Shiver me timbers! Gulliver’s got a whole new lewk, and a quest to match. Help him out and you get a mysterious reward. Did you know that you could also swim for items? Yo ho ho, buried treasure, here we go!

But wait, there’s more—a second wave of updates will be coming this August (with fireworks in the background, hint hint). So you can expect more awesomeness ahead. Hopefully, players who haven’t picked up AC:NH in a while due to burnout will find these changes refreshing. Look forward to reviving your island with sea-themed decor and follow @animalcrossing on Twitter for more official updates.
