It’s yet that time of the year again for the biggest gaming convention in the Philippines – Esports and Gaming Summit (ESGS) 2019! ESGS 2019 will happen on October 25 to 27, 2019 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
This year’s convention takes on a cyberpunk theme, coming from last year’s RPG theme. In addition to the annual change in theme for a refreshing visual experience, ESGS 2019 also introduces Astra, the official event persona of ESGS.
Astra, cosplayed by Awie de Guzman, will be part of all ESGS events moving forward and will take eventgoers on a journey that changes from theme to theme, year to year.
“With ESGS getting bigger and bigger every year, I’m very excited to see the gamers in the activities and games that they will be able to experience,” mentioned Joebert Yu, Managing Partner of Gariath Concepts in a statement.
This year, PLDT Home Fibr and Smart are putting up the PLDT-Smart Cyber City, a gaming zone that gives subscribers to chance to experience Virtual Reality games including Sniper Elite and Beat Saber to win swag, and a chance to bump into their favorite cosplayers and esports athletes, to name a few.
The convention also has quite the number of tech brands with their own deals and promos. Some of these include ASUS Republic of Gamers, MSI, Predator, Legion by Lenovo, HyperX, Corsair, and Steelseries.
What’s ESGS without games and its publishers? This year’s list includes Capcom, Gumi, Boomzap, Ranida Games, Kojima Productions, and Nintendo Switch (by Maxsoft), to name a few. They will be featuring their current games and merchandise. ESGS 2019 will be the first time that Nintendo joins a gaming convention in Southeast Asia.
The Indie Arena is also making its return this year brought in by the International Game Developers Association – Manila (IGDA – Manila). This will be the home for the different games in the independent scene.
Worry not, they didn’t forget about esports! ESGS 2019 will have the Mountain Dew Fighting Game Arena, hosted by Playbook. In addition, exhibition matches of the Sibol Philippine National team will also be played out on the main stage throughout the weekend. Mobile games have not been forgotten and will be featured on the Mobile Esports Arena. The different booths will also be holding their own respective tournaments, each with their own prizes as well.
This year’s Artist Alley has been expanded and will be featuring more exhibitors and illustrators. This area will still feature a variety of merchandise that spans from gaming gear, toys, tabletop games, collectibles, art, and many more.
Last, but definitely not the least, this year’s Cosplay Competition will continue to feature some of the finest costume work. They’ve also announced that anyone can get a chance to win a prize whether competing or just having fun in the event.
“It is our hope that people who go to ESGS leave with smiles on their faces after all the hype activities and merchandise, “ concluded Mr. Yu.
