Blizzard announces Overwatch Contenders Season One Teams and Schedule

While fans around the world are still waiting for the start of the Overwatch League, Blizzard is looking to whet fans’ appetite for some high-skill Overwatch action with their announcement of Season One of Contenders for the North American and European Region.

For those unfamiliar, Overwatch Contenders can be seen as a feeder tournament for the upcoming Overwatch League. It’s the tournament where players and teams can showcase their skills in competitive Overwatch, as organizations from all over the world are looking to fill their rosters by the start of the Overwatch League.

Contenders isn’t just a showcase of talent though, as it’s a legitimate tournament with a USD $100,000 prizepool per region. And while the upcoming season is called Season One, it’s technically the second, as Season Zero took place last June-July, 2017.

North American Teams

Unlike in Season Zero, Season One now only has eight teams per region. Though the Group Stage will now be round-robin featuring all teams; unlike the four group round-robin in the previous season.

The NA team lineup is a stacked one for sure, as last season’s winner Immortals are in the tourney; as well as powerhouse NA teams EnVyUs and Rogue.

European Teams

The EU team lineup also looks similarly stacked, with last season’s champoins eUnited still in the fray, along with teams 123 and Cloud9.

The Group Stage of the Overwatch Contenders will take place across six weeks, and it will culminate in an offline Playoffs and Finals on October 8-9. The first week of the Group Stage will start on August 20 PHT; with the first match of the NA Contenders being EnVyUs vs. Immortals, while for EU it will be Misfits vs. Cloud9.

Here is the full schedule for the Overwatch Contenders (adjusted to PHT):
