E3 2019: The Biggest Announcements from the Microsoft Xbox Press Conference

Every year, tons of the new games are unveiled at E3 from the many press conferences that happen throughout the event’s duration. This year, Microsoft had one of the biggest conferences at E3 with over a dozen titles featured during their show, including several significant announcements. We’ve listed down the biggest announcements from Microsoft’s Xbox Press Conference at E3 2019 below:

Project Scarlett, the Next-Generation Xbox

Arguably the biggest announcement the company made at their E3 press conference was Project Scarlett, the company’s next-generation console. According to Microsoft, the new console will feature 8K support, SSD storage, ray-tracing graphics. It will also support Xbox One games, controllers, and accessories. Project Scarlett is set to release sometime in Fall 2020 with Halo Infinite as the first announced launch title.

Halo Infinite Cinematic Trailer

Alongside the announcement of Project Scarlett, Microsoft also released a new trailer for the upcoming Halo Infinite, which will be coming not only to Project Scarlett as a launch title but also the Xbox One and even PC in the Fall of 2019. The new trailer shows Master Chief being rescued and revived by an unknown pilot and a destroyed Halo Ring just outside their ship just before coming under attack. Halo Infinite will be the 6th main entry into the long-running series.

Cyberpunk 2077 Release Date Announced, Keanu Reeves Introduced

CD Projekt RED finally announced the release date of Cyberpunk 2077, which is now set for April 16, 2020, and showed off a new trailer which introduces John Wick and The Matrix star Keanu Reeves as one of the game’s characters, named Johnny Silverhand. It isn’t clear how big of a role Reeve’s character will play in Cyberpunk 2077 but his inclusion will definitely make the lead up to the game much more exciting.

Gears 5 Release Date, Escape Game Mode Announced

Gears 5 developer The Coalition announced that the sixth main game in the series would release on Xbox One and PC on September 10, 2019. The game will focus on Kait from Gears of War 4 as she tries to uncover the origins of her family and her connection with the Locust. A new teaser trailer was released featuring Kait struggling with visions of her allies as well as the Locust Queen. A trailer of the game’s new Escape mode was also released.

FromSoftware and George R. R. Martin Collaboration Elden Ring Unveiled

The collaboration project between Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro developer FromSoftware and A Song of Ice and Fire author George R. R. Martin was finally unveiled at the Microsoft Xbox Press Conference. Called Elden Ring, the new game will feature a “new world” created by both Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki and GRRM. While no gameplay was unveiled during the announcement, a teaser trailer for the game was released.

Double Fine Productions Joins Microsoft Game Studios, Psychonauts 2 Trailer Released

Psychonauts and Brutal Legend developer Double Fine Productions have come under the banner of Microsoft Game Studios. The studio joins the likes of Ninja Theory, Obsidian Entertainment, and more that have been picked up my Microsoft in the past year. Along with the acquisition announcement, Double Fine also released a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Psychonauts 2, which is set for release on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC some time in 2019.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Officially Announced, Trailer Released

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot has been officially announced, the new game was previously teased earlier this year but was simply called Dragon Ball: Project Z. A new trailer for the new game was also released alongside an announcement of its release window of early 2020. Looking at the new trailer, the new game is a retelling of the Dragon Ball Z anime’s Vegeta Saga all the way up to the Frieza Saga through the eyes of the game’s titular character, Kakarot AKA Goku.

Tales of Arise Announced, Trailer Released

Tales of Arise, the latest entry into the long-running Tales RPG franchise, was officially announced at the Microsoft Xbox Press Conference at E3. Details on the game’s story were previously leaked before the event, revealing that it will take place on the planet Dahna and will feature two protagonists. Tales of Arise will be released on the Xbox One, PS4, and PC sometime in 2020.

The Outer Worlds Gameplay Trailer Released

A new gameplay trailer of The Outer Worlds from Pillars of Eternity developer Obsidian Entertainment was unveiled during the Microsoft Xbox Press Conference at E3. The trailer gives us a better look at the game’s gameplay and visual style, which looks a lot like a combination of Fallout: New Vegas and Borderlands. The release date of The Outer Worlds was also announced, which is set for October 25, 2019, for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Bleeding Edge Unveiled, Technical Alpha Announced

Hellblade developer Ninja Theory has officially unveiled Bleeding Edge, their first Xbox exclusive since being acquired by Xbox Game Studios last year. The new game is a 4v4 third-person melee combat game that features a roster of unique and eccentric characters for players to choose from. While a release date for Bleeding Edge has yet to be announced but a technical alpha will be available beginning June 27.

Several other games also got new trailers during the Microsoft Xbox Press Conference at E3 2019 include Microsoft Flight Simulator, Minecraft Dungeons, Battletoads, Blair Witch, Phantasy Star Online 2, Dying Light 2, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
