Genji and the Hanamura Map from Overwatch coming soon to Heroes of the Storm

Following the Heroes 2.0 announcement, Blizzard has announced a new map and another new hero for Heroes of the Storm, Genji and the Hanamura map. Both upcoming additions are from Blizzard’s highly-popular FPS, Overwatch.

In what seems to be the busiest map so far in Heroes of the Storm, Hanamura introduces a number of unique features and map objectives. The biggest addition being the payloads for each team that need to be delivered to a set location; the said payloads are one of the few ways to damage the enemy team’s core, as the core is protected by a barrier that cannot be attacked by heroes. Each team’s core has 7 health points, and every delivered payload deals one damage.

The payloads work much like the ones in Overwatch; heroes push payloads by standing next to them, and standing next to an enemy payload stops it. As each team has a payload of their own, the map forces teams to balance between attacking and defending. Adding depth to the map’s gameplay are Forts, which can be destroyed which will power-up the team’s payload damage.

There are also other ways to damage an enemy’s core, one of which is by defeating the Enforcer at the middle of the map. The team that defeats the boss will be able to deal damage to the other team’s core. Aside from the Enforcer, multiple mercenary camps populate the map, and these camps give out rewards upon defeat ranging from healing items to turrets that can be planted on the payload.

New Hero: Genji

Genji is the fourth hero from Overwatch that will make an appearance in HotS, and much like the other three (Tracer, Zarya, and Lucio to be specific), his abilities in the game are much like his kit in Overwatch.

Here are Genjis Primary and Heroic abilities:

SHURIKEN – Throw 3 Shuriken in a spread pattern, each dealing 65 damage to the first enemy hit. Stores up to 3 charges. Shuriken’s cooldown replenishes all charges at the same time.

DEFLECT – Become Protected for 1.25 seconds. Any damage blocked during this period causes Genji to throw a Kunai toward the nearest enemy, prioritizing Heroes and dealing 55 damage. Damage Deflected: 0

SWIFT STRIKE – Dash forward, dealing 215 damage to all enemies in a line. Enemy Heroes that die within 2 seconds of being hit with Swift Strike cause the cooldown and mana cost to be refunded.

DRAGONBLADE – Unleash the Dragonblade for 8 seconds. While active, Dragonblade can be reactivated to lunge forward and slash in a huge arc, dealing 240 damage. If enemy Heroes are killed within 2 seconds of being hit by Dragonblade, Swift Strike’s cooldown is reset.

X-STRIKE – Perform two slashes dealing 135 damage. The slashes detonate after 1.25 seconds causing an additional 270 damage to enemies in their area.
