The regional qualifiers for The International 2019, the biggest Dota 2 tournament of the year, just concluded last weekend and we now know the 18 teams that will be competing at the big event next month.
Just like last season, the DPC point and ranking system was used to determine the invited teams. But unlike last year, which only had eight invited slots, the number of invited teams this year was raised to 12. This meant only six slots, one per region, remained for the teams who wished to enter through the qualifiers.
The six teams that qualified through the regional tournaments are Forward Gaming (NA), Infamous (SA), Chaos Esports Club (EU), Natus Vincere (CIS), Royal Never Give Up (CN), and Mineski (SEA).
They join Team Secret, Virtus.pro, Vici Gaming, Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid, PSG.LGD, Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas, TNC Predator, OG, Alliance, and Keen Gaming, as the final 18 teams that will be competing at TI9
Notably, three SEA teams have once again qualified to compete at TI9. Both Fnatic and TNC Predator were invited through the DPC point system while Mineski was able to qualify through last week’s Southeast Asia Qualifier.
The Group Stage of The International 2019 is scheduled to begin next month on August 15, 2019. It will be held at the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Shanghai, China.
