Netflix’s The Witcher Series Gets Its First Trailer
Posted by Martin Patino on July 23, 2019

Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for their adaptation of The Witcher during a panel at San Diego Comic Con 2019. Just a few weeks ago, the platform released several photos revealing how the show’s main characters, namely Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan’s Ciri, and Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer, will look like and now we actually get to see them in action.

While last year’s released screen test footage led to immense doubts about the show, due to the quality of Cavill’s wig and costume, the aforementioned promotional photos and this new trailer hopefully help give fans, of both the novels and video games, some hope that Netflix will be able to pull off a great adaptation.

It must be noted though that the Netflix series won’t be an adaptation of the popular video game series from CD Projekt RED but rather an adaption of the original fantasy novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. To be more specific, the show looks to be adapting, among other things, parts of both the Last Wish and Sword of Destiny, collections of short stories preceding the main Witcher Saga.

Adapting from the novels directly means that the show will have several dissimilarities from the video games. One such difference is Cavill’s Geralt only carrying one sword as opposed to two in the video games. In the novels, Geralt regularly only carries his steel sword while his silver sword is usually stowed away on his horse Roach.

A release date for Netflix’s The Witcher series has yet to be announced but it is expected to come out sometime later this year. You can check out the new trailer released from San Diego Comic Con 2019 below:
