Rev Major 2019: Ehada|NM MattGaw fights his way to the top of Mortal Kombat 11
Posted by Ram Ronquillo on September 29, 2019

Matthew “Ehada|NM MattGaw” Gaw took home the Mortal Kombat 11 championship at REV Major 2019!

Mortal Kombat 11 may be one of the newer released titles in the roster of games in REV Major 2019, but it definitely did not disappoint when it came to the matches and performances.

MattGaw had a good start to the tournament using his favorite character, Cetrion. He swept his first two opponents but struggled against CGP|ABC Champo in the Upper Bracket Quarterfinals. The 3-1 loss dropped MattGaw to the Lower Bracket and it was there where he truly found his momentum going.

He would go on to sweep NinjaD and SideStepLance and win in four games against Icyie. The Lower Brackets semifinals and Finals were a bit tougher on paper though as he went up against Japanese fighting game veteran Tachikawa and Filipino veteran PromilKid.

MattGaw proved that the challenge was only on paper though as he swept both veterans and set his sights on the player that dropped him to the Lower Bracket, CGP|ABC Champo.

The second meeting between the two players saw a big boost in the Lower Bracket finalist. The Lower Bracket looked to have warmed him up and impressed the audience by resetting the bracket.

Champo, having lost his twice-to-beat advantage, did his best to stop the bleeding and his opponent’s momentum but despite his best efforts, fell to the excellent zoning and keep away game of MattGaw.

MattGaw clawed his way out of the Lower Bracket and was thankful for everyone that helped him. His sparring partners, those that he faced in his 30 minutes of playing after work, and even the opponents he faced at REV Major. [Special shoutouts to Martin Lorenzo and Matt Javier, to name a few as per Matt]

With all the thanks, he thanked his mom in our interview with him.

Thankful din ako sa mom ko na nagsimba pa ata sa Quiapo para manalo ako. Di ko alam pero parang gusto ko mag fusion kami kaya ganito yung suot ko ngayon,” [I’m thankful of my mom who I think even went to church in Quiapo just for me to win. I just felt like I wanted to fuse with her which is why I decided to wear this for the tournament,] said MattGaw.
