SEA Games 2019: PHI Sibol National Team Advances to Playoffs in SCII, ML:BB Esports Events
Posted by cmsadminGG December 06, 2019

The first day of esports events at the 30th Southeast Asian Games saw the group stages of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, StarCraft II, and Hearthstone take place, deciding which countries would move on to the playoffs. After a gruelling round robin group stage, the Philippine Sibol National Team competitors for both ML:BB and StarCraft II successfully secured positions in the playoffs. Sadly, both of the team’s Hearthstone players were unable to do the same.

The group stage for ML:BB concluded with both Malaysia (2-0-2) and Indonesia (2-0-1) topping their respective groups, with the Philippines (1-0-2) securing the second playoff spot behind Indonesia while both Singapore (1-0-3) and Vietnam (1-0-3) ended up tied behind Malaysia. The two latter teams will play a tie-breaker match before the playoffs officially begin on December 6, 2019, to decide which team will face the Philippines in the lower bracket.

In the StarCraft II event, Philippine representative Caviar Napoleon Acampado (5-0) dominated his respective group with an almost perfect run, dropping only one game across his five best-of-three matches. His teammate, Derick Justin Santos (2-3) was also able to secure a spot in the playoffs. They will be facing Vietnam’s Hong Phuc Tran (5-0) and Singapore’s Thomas Kopankiewicz, respectively.

The rest of the players moving on to the playoffs in the StarCraft II event include Singaporean Wei Liang Alvin Toh (3-2), Malaysia’s Yap Khun (4-1), Indonesian Emmanuel Enrique (4-1), and Thailand’s Pichayut Prasertwit (2-3).

Lastly, Thailand’s Aukit Kittikrairit (4-1) and Indonesia’s Hendry Koentarto (4-1) both topped their respective groups in the Hearthstone event, securing the two upper bracket semi-finals spots in the playoffs. The other players who were also able to advance include Vietnam’s Hoang Long Nguyen (4-1), Singaporean Khai Kiat Chew (4-1), and Thailand’s Werit Popan (3-2).

Sadly, the Philippines’ Jacinta Dee (2-3) and Dustin Mangulabnan (2-3) were both unable to secure a playoff spot.

The playoffs of all three events will be held today, December 6, 2019, at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan, Metro Manila. As for the Arena of Valor and Dota 2 events, they begin on December 7, 2019, while the Tekken 7 event starts and ends on December 10, 2019.
