The International 2019: OG Sends EG to the Lower Bracket, Mineski Fall Short in Day 3 of the Main Event
Posted by Martin Patino August 23, 2019

In arguably one of the biggest and most exciting days of the Main Event of The International 2019, rivals OG and EG came face to face in the upper bracket semi-finals and while Mineski were ultimately eliminated they came close to taking out Team Secret from the tournament.

Before those two big matches though, one of the most surprising teams in the tournament, Infamous, made another big step forward in the Main Event as they defeated Newbee in 2nd round of the lower bracket. The South American team took very strong control of the first game, quickly closing it out in under 30 minutes. And while Newbee turned the tables in Game 2 with a dominating game of their own, Infamous was able to bounce back strong with another impressive performance in Game 3 to clinch the series.

The second lower bracket match of the day saw Mineski bring out an incredibly amazing showing against Team Secret, leading for most of Game 1 and only losing due to a last minute comeback from the European squad. In spite of the crushing loss in Game 1, Mineski kept their composure and came back stronger in Game 2 to tie the series. Finally, in their third and final game, one of the most exciting in the tournament so far, both teams pulled out all the stops as the game swung back and forth but Team Secret executed another amazing comeback and  grabbed two consecutive team fights to seal the series and advance to the next round of the lower bracket.

Swinging over to the upper bracket, PSG.LGD showed exactly why they’re one of the biggest contenders for the Aegis this year as they systematically took down Vici Gaming in the first semi-final match of the upper bracket. The top seed of Group A and last year’s runner-up kept the match pretty even all throughout each game and dominantly swinging things in their favor when it counted to handily sweep VG in two 40-minute games to bring themselves one step closer to another grand finals appearance.

The last match of the day, the one many fans were looking forward to the entire day, brought rivals OG and EG together for one of the most exciting matches of the tournament so far. With the momentum from beating Team Secret the day before, EG handily steamrolled through the first game of the series against OG. The TI8 champions showed their mettle in the second game though as they were able to make the necessary adjustments to clinch the game and extend the series to a third game. With the series tied, OG pulled out an amazingly masterful performance to quickly dominate Game 3 in less than 30 minutes to win the series and send EG to the lower bracket.

OG will now face their TI8 Grand Finals rivals PSG.LGD in the upper bracket finals while Infamous will have another chance to shock everyone once again when they face Team Secret in the next round of the Lower Bracket. Before that though, Team Liquid will attempt to keep their TI9 run alive as they face Royal Never Give Up in the first match of Day 4 of the Main Event at The International 2019.
