Hand of the Gods: SMITE Tactics Beta – Out Now On PC, PS4, and Xbox One

The new collectible card game based on the popular Action MOBA is currently in Open Beta on the PC and Closed Beta on PS4 and Xbox One. To be able to play the game on PC, all you have to do is download the launcher from the official website and you’re good to go. While Hand of the Gods is currently in “closed” beta on consoles, it’s really open for everyone. All you need to do to gain access right now is to have an active PSN or Xbox Live subscription and download it from the online store.

Hand of the Gods is not your ordinary CCG. There are so many elements that set it apart from games like Hearthstone, Magic: The Gathering, and The Elder Scrolls: Legends. Deck building and collecting cards are obviously still core aspects of the game as you might expect, but the similarities pretty much end there. Developer Hi-Rez has added turn-based strategy game mechanics into the mix. for added strategic depth.

The goal in the game is to destroy your opponent’s summoning stone. Chipping away your enemy’s health points using a mix of spell cards, melee minions, and ranged units is a refreshing change to the formula. Instead of playing cards on a board, you place units on a tiled terrain. This element adds strategic depth of map placement which makes smart movement just as important as drawing the right cards from your deck. Since gameplay is so different from the competition, you may find the game compelling even if you’re not a fan of other collectible card games.

Hand of the Gods entered production last year and will most likely be in its beta state for months to come. Despite the game being really fresh, a professional eSports scene for the game is on the rise.

You can play the game for a chance to win a trip to Atlanta, Georgia and compete in the $50,000 Hand of the Gods Founder’s Tournament at Hi-Rez Expo 2018. All you have to do is win one of 6 HRX Qualifying Tournaments in October and November.

It’s really interesting to see so much developer support for a professional competitive scene this early in the game’s life cycle. This factor definitely sets it apart from other card games currently out on the market right now. If you’re a competitive player looking for a new game to sink your teeth into, Hand of the Gods is definitely worth the look.
