Itch.io Offers A Thousand Games in a Bundle for #BlackLivesMatter Support
Posted by Donna Almonte June 10, 2020

We’re living in troubled times due to the pandemic, but the never-ending fight against black prejudice has been ongoing for decades, if not centuries. Due to the recent police brutality that caused the tragic death of George Floyd (and a long list of others), many citizens in parts of the country have taken to protesting—now on their second week. Since we’re way over here in Southeast Asia and still fighting the pandemic, it’s not possible nor efficient to travel and take part in person.

But what if you can help fight systemic racism by playing video games? Itch.io, an open indie game marketplace, makes it possible. With great titles like Night In The Woods and Cook, Serve, Delicious, 2! up for grabs, gamers all over the world get to support a huge cause AND have fun while they’re at it. Players who avail the bundle can download over 1,000 games (we repeat, 1,000 games!) for a mere 5 dollars (PHP 250).

Technically, anyone can pay what they want for the huge bundle, but the minimum is $5 that’s around the cost of less than 2 Starbucks lattes. If that’s not a steal, we don’t know what is. Choose your own adventure with the fully voiced, conversational teen thriller Oxenfree. Or play Quadrilateral Cowboy, where you can enjoy a first-person cyberpunk heist adventure. There are tons of unique games to pick from, we don’t know where to begin (or end).

What’s more, all of the proceeds will be split equally between the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Community Bail Fund—two of the U.S. organizations that are helping the black community fight police brutality and racial injustice.

The Bundle For Racial Justice and Equality started with 700 indie titles from 790 creators, which is already amazing. Thanks to its huge success this past week, it has since expanded to 1,000 games (available for both past and present buyers, so past buyers need not worry).

As of this writing, total sales amount to $2.9M, which is more than half of itch.io’s $5M goal. For those interested to donate, the Bundle For Racial Justice and Equality is available on the itch.io official site for a limited time only, from June 5 to June 15th. #BlackLivesMatter
