Announced in December of 2019 and developed by Cryptic Studios and Perfect World Entertainment, Magic: Legends lets you explore the multiverse of Magic: The Gathering like never before. You can choose to play one of the five initial Planeswalker classes from the five color schools in MTG, the Blue Mind Mage, the White Sanctifier, the Black Necromancer, the Red Geomancer, and the Green Beastcaller. Your planeswalking adventures will take you across six classic regions across 4 planes of the Magic The Gathering Multiverse such as Shiv, Benalia, Tazeem, Tolaria, Gavony and The Meditation Realm.

The most interesting aspect of the game is its combat and how it incorporates deck building and strategy into the basic isometric action RPG fare. Skills and spells take the form of cards that you prepare in your deck before the action starts. As you traverse the multiverse and encounter otherworldly foes and creatures you can draw from your deck of cards into your hand and cast those spells that way. Players can mix and match their loadout from 175 powerful mana-based spells and over 200 Artifacts and Equipment pieces from and inspired by the classic card game!

According to the frequently asked questions sheet on the official Magic: Legends website, the game will be free-to-play indefinitely with story content and future updates all available without any additional purchases. The game will feature microtransactions through the options in-game store to purchase cosmetics, card packs and boosts but are allegedly not mandatory to play the game.

Players that participate in the Open Beta will be receiving exclusive rewards depending on where they choose to play.  Arc Games planeswalkers will receive a free Gavony Vigilante Costume for their character, the ‘Bruiser’ skin for the Ogre Mortar creature summon, two drop boosts and two mission boosts. Meanwhile, Epic Games Store planewalkers can claim a free Moorland Ranger Costume, Moorland Ranger Werewolf Summon Skin and two drop boosts until April 7, 2021, at 12:00 am GMT+8.

There is no official release date for Magic: Legends but the Open Beta will be considered the soft launch maintaining player progress without wiping when it formally launches later this year on PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
