MPL-PH Season 6, Week 3: Execration Crushes NXP in BO3 Thriller
Posted by Yuri Mangahas September 10, 2020

After weeks of anticipation and hype on social media, Execration and NXP Solid finally met in a three-game thriller to solidify their position in the leaderboards. Contrary to expectations, the teams fought a tightly contested match that shocked nearly 700K viewers during the livestream.

NXP took an early lead in the series as the white-clad team deployed an aggressive draft to contain Execration in the map and crush the latter’s side turrets. However, Z4pnu’s squad remained undeterred and countered NXP’s aggro plays in a battle of attrition to secure Game 2. While the H2WO-led team seemed poised to take Game 3, Execration leveraged their opponents’ five-man tower dive and eliminated all of their heroes in one snap, allowing the boys in black and blue to mount a decisive push and win the series.

It was NXP’s five-man dive that served as the opening for Execration to secure victory.

The problems continued for NXP as they faced two-time champions Aura PH in a one-sided match. Reeling from their shocking loss in Week 2, the M1 veterans wasted no time and tapped the services of Renzio to repel NXP. Coupled with Jaypee’s carry plays and Greed’s unique usage of Kagura, Aura PH snuffed NXP’s hopes to bounce back from their previous loss.

Aura PH Captain Greed stepped up and showcased a unique Kagura play in their series against NXP.

With two consecutive losses in their record, NXP needs to rethink its approach if the team hopes to maintain its spot in the group standings.

Aura PH maintained their dominance in the leaderboards by defeating Omega PH. While the Dragons managed to take the first game, the orange-clad boys adjusted their plays and choked Omega PH of their resources, ending in a decisive Game 2 victory. Rafflesia hammered the final nail in Omega PH’s coffin as he fielded an unexpected ace in his sleeve: his iconic Diggie tactical feeding strategy. The Diggie pick messed up Omega PH’s strategy and left them vulnerable to Aura PH’s relentless attacks, resulting in a victory for the two-time champs.

It took one sneaky Diggie pick to shatter Omega PH’s winning strategy to pieces.

Despite carrying a strong momentum from the first day of Week 3, Execration suffered a devastating loss at the hands of Bren Esports. The former Aether Main team countered the Z4pnu-led unit’s drafts and deployed a brutal strategy that repelled the podium chasers from mounting potential pushes, as the latter’s momentum proved insufficient to taint Bren’s pristine streak.

Bren Esports maintains its pristine streak in the leaderboards.

After a slew of record-breaking battles in Week 3, the current standings are as follows:

Cignal Ultra is slated to challenge its former rival Bren Esports in an El Classico bout to open Week 4. Will the Comeback Kings manage to destroy the Season 2 champ’s streak?

Meanwhile, NXP will face off against Omega PH on the third day of Week 4. Will the white-clad team learn from their recent losses and stun the SEA Games veterans?
