Warframe has just released its 30th major content update named Call of Tempestarii. The new swashbuckling saga essentially turns everybody’s favorite space ninja simulator into a futuristic high seas, pirate adventure through the cosmos. Along with Call of Tempestarii comes a new shadow-wielding Warframe, a new story and quest line, and much-needed updates to the Railjack system which make raiding and pillaging in open space much easier and more streamlined.
However, the best thing to come out for the new update is once again its instant classic theme music Sleeping In the Cold Below.
It’s got lyrics of an ominous figure lying in wait:
“There’s a man on high
With the Devil in his eye
And a golden hand, I’m told
It can hurt you, it can hold you
He can kick you or console you
When you’re sleeping in the cold below”
And the chant-like chorus of voices on a journey:
“Sisters! Below, below
We’re going where the winds don’t blow
Yes we’re all bound down
To the deep and we’ll all be
Sleeping in the cold below, below
Sleeping in the cold below”
As well as an overall theme ofthe morbid acceptance of the inevitability of death:
So wise and true
When it’s my time to go
Won’t you lay me down
Under Granum Crowns
And I’ll be sleeping in the cold below, below
Sleeping in the cold below”
Keith Power is also responsible for the first time Warframe has had a song be the best thing in the update. Power produced the game’s inspiring, blue-collar mining anthem, We All Lift Together that provided the iconic soundtrack to its Fortuna update in 2018. Damhnait Doyle also had a hand in We All Lift Together singing together with Jason Lewis, Murray Foster, and Kevin Durand. In Sleeping In the Cold Below, Doyle takes the lead in vocals.
If this keeps up, we’ll probably be lining up for album drops and live gigs when Warframe drops its future updates!
Warframe: Call of Tempestarii is now available to all Tenno who’ve unlocked the Railjack via The Deadlock Protocol questline. You can find the full update including information on the new Corpus Proxima quest, Railjack updates, new Warframes, and complete patch notes here.
