PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold Free Games for December 2020
Posted by Paolo Arciga December 01, 2020

We’re fast approaching the end of the year as we turn our calendar pages to its last month, but this December also marks the first month that the PlayStation’s and Xbox’s respective subscription services will be available for next-generation consoles. That’s right, PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold subscribers will now be able to play these freebies on their PS5s and Xbox Series X/S’s.

While both next-gen consoles have yet to be released in the Philippines, those lucky enough to have been able to pre-order a PS5 will be receiving their units mid-December, with the local release of the Xbox Series X/S likely not far behind. While you wait patiently for those next-gen console releases, why not renew your PS Plus or XBLG subscription to get your free games ready when your PS5 or Xbox Series X/S arrives at your door?

Here are the free games up for grabs on PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold this December 2020.

PS Plus Games for December 2020

Worms Rumble

Remember Worms? The Lemmings-style turn-based strategy game that had worms firing guns and rockets at each other? It all sounds like child’s play now that we’re so used to video games with complex mechanics and striking graphics, but Worms was a pretty good game series back in the day. With the continuing popularity of battle royale-style games, it seems like the perfect time and genre for Worms to make a comeback, and they’re doing so in the form of Worms Rumble.

Worms Rumble is a multiplayer Worms game that takes place on a 2.5D stage that accommodates cross-play and up to 32 players. While it features the same classic gameplay of the Worms games of old, a new twist to Worms Rumble is that its gameplay will now be in real-time rather than turn-based. It’s an updated take on a classic that’ll be great for making use of PS Plus’s online services to play with a large group of friends, and you don’t even all have to own PS5s.

Just Cause 4

Widely known as Grand Theft Auto’s more action-oriented cousin, the Just Cause series takes the open-world formula and fills it with extreme environments, action movie-style means of transportation (I mean, just look at this game’s wingsuit and grappling hook mechanics!), and extravagant pyrotechnics that rivals even a Michael Bay movie.

Just Cause 4 is set in the South America-inspired fictional nation of Solis, where protagonist Rico Rodriguez is sent to uncover the culprits behind an underground project aiming to create a device that can control the weather. It’s an action movie plot through and through, but what makes the plot all the more engaging is how it factors in the gameplay. In Just Cause 4, you’ll be braving hurricanes, raging thunderstorms, and unrelenting blizzards on your way to find out who’s playing the weatherman.

Rocket Arena

Part-hero shooter and part-extreme sports game, Rocket Arena is a multiplayer 3v3 third-person shooter that’ll have you riding a rocket around a map trying to shoot down your enemies with some delightfully cartoonish weapons. With an art style that looks like a mix of Ratchet & Clank and Pixar-animated movies, it’s a family-friendly title that seems to be aimed at the Fortnite crowd.

Rocket Arena features several multiplayer game modes tailored to its rocket-maneuvering mechanics, and as a shooter whose core gameplay involves riding around in the sky, it’ll definitely provide hours and hours of fun as you try to master each mode and maneuver. It’s another multiplayer title that’ll put your PS Plus online services to good use, so grab it while it’s free.

Xbox Live Gold Games for December 2020

While the folks at PlayStation are ending this year of PS Plus with a bang, putting three games up for grabs rather than the usual two, Xbox Live Gold is showing signs that it might be moving on to make room for the Xbox Game Pass as Xbox’s next-generation consoles roll out worldwide. The past few months’ Xbox Live Gold lineups have been lackluster, offering mostly average games with the occasional classic thrown in there every other month.

Whether you’re signed up for just Xbox Live Gold or you’ve got the whole package with the Xbox Game Pass (which includes Live Gold), here are the games you can get for free through Games with Gold.

The Raven Remastered

(Available December 1 to 31)

Bleed 2

Available December 16 to January 15

Saints Row: Gat Out of Hell

Available December 1 to 15

Available December 16 to 31

Are you looking forward to playing these games on your soon-to-arrive PS5s and Xbox Series X/S’s? Or do you plan to wait until those next-gen consoles are easier to get before you buy yourself a unit? Whichever the case, these games will be playable on both current-gen consoles and next-gen consoles, so you won’t need to worry about compatibility problems.

For more news and updates on each month’s free games as well as the latest releases and the upcoming launches of the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, be sure to stay tuned to our website and Facebook page.
