The New Valorant Map Breeze is Going Be Sniper City
Posted by Raphael Leynes April 24, 2021

Riot has unveiled the newest map to make port in its tactical hero shooter, Valorant and it’s poised to become a haven for snipers and long-range assassins as it is for pirates and seafaring scallywags.

The new map Breeze is set on a nameless remote island situated somewhere south of the Bermuda Triangle. From the screenshots that Riot sent us Breeze looks like the old, seaside pirate bastions in the vein of the ports in Tortuga or Nassau. Parts of the map provide an interesting contrast of the sturdy walls of its cobblestone forts against its white sand, seaside vistas, and tropical flora.

There’s also a sense of abandonment and neglect here with parts of the map featuring ramshackle walls and rooftops and the overgrowth of plants and weeds over what once seemed like a bustling industrial trading hub.

Devon Fay, Lead Artist for Riot Games, states that the new map Breeze was deeply inspired by islands in the Caribbean while giving it a unique Valorant spin:

“We loved the old forts and tropical beaches. After the cold, angular world of Icebox, we were really excited for the open, bright, colorful world of Breeze.”

“The setting also let us tell a story of modern piracy in a history rich location. What if Kingdom lost control of its Radianite stores and technology? What would the people who took it do with it?”

From a gameplay standpoint, along with its bright and colorful environment, come plenty of wide open spaces perfect for long-distance encounters that would delight the game’s snipers and marksmen. Players who specialize in using the Operator or the Marshall Sniper rifles or even players who just love winging headshots down in the range with their preferred weapon will be in for a real treat with Breeze.

Sal Garozzo, Senior Game Designer for Riot Games states that this is exactly what they had in mind when they designed Breeze:

“One of the main goals we had with Breeze was building larger and more open spaces with longer sightlines than the other maps in the pool. This provides an opportunity for different weapons and Agents to shine. Each map should provide different strengths and weaknesses for the Agents in the roster to explore while supporting different types of strategies and team compositions.”

Breeze will be hitting the Valorant shores on April 27, 2021 Manila Time. Happy Sniping!
