Today, Tomorrow, Forever: Dame, Zion and Kobe are Your NBA 2K21 Cover Athletes
Posted by Raphael Leynes July 03, 2020

Capping off the string of announcements made by 2K this week was the unveiling of the third and final version of NBA 2K21, The Mamba Forever Edition, which replaces the usual Legend Edition and pays tribute to the late, great Kobe Bryant. The legendary Lakers icon joins the previously announced Damian Lillard and Zion Williamson as the cover athletes for the latest iteration of 2K’s prolific basketball simulation game.

All-Time Greats

The Mamba Forever Edition marks the third time that Kobe has been chosen as the cover athlete for NBA 2K. He was featured on NBA 2K10 as well as the Legend Edition of NBA 2K17 previously. Now with the  NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition Kobe once again graces the cover with touching heartfelt artwork paying tribute to his awe-inspiring career.

Just in case your eyes felt a little dry today, here’s the Mamba Forever Edition trailer:

In a heart-warming gesture, the trifecta of cover stars were selected to represent the present, the future and the all-time greatness of the NBA. As such each athlete will feature on a specific edition of the game—Lillard for the current-gen version, Williamson for the next-gen version, and Bryant as in the Mamba Forever Edition.

Alfie Brodie, Vice President of Global Marketing at NBA 2K beams:

“Each of our cover athletes represent different eras of the game of basketball – Damian Lillard dominates the court today, Zion Williamson is a standard-bearer for the next generation of NBA superstar and what more could be said about Kobe?”

“Three athletes representing the current, future, and storied history of the game. Today’s exciting announcement is just the first of many for NBA 2K21; it’s going to be a huge year for basketball fans and NBA 2K gamers.”

NBA 2K21 will release on current-generation platforms on September 4, 2020 and is available for pre-order today. NBA 2k21 will also be available on the forthcoming next-generation platforms— the  PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X— as a launch title this holiday season

NBA 2K21 will be available for ₱3,190 on current-generation platforms; the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X version of NBA 2K21 will be available for ₱3,690. NBA 2K21 Mamba Forever Edition will be available for ₱5,390  for both current and next-generation platforms. As an added incentive, the Mamba Forever Edition includes dual-access where purchase of it on either current or next-generation platforms provides a copy of the standard edition game on the other generation at no extra cost within the same console family.

Onwards to the Future

With the next generation of consoles right on the horizon, 2K wants to make the transition into the future that much easier with some nifty new features, namely:  MyTEAM Cross-Progression and a Shared VC Wallet within the same console family (PS4 to PS5, Xbox One to Xbox Series X). MyTEAM Cross-Progression links MyTEAM Points, Tokens, cards and progress across both the current and next-gen versions of the game in the same console family.  Shared VC Wallet likewise allows any earned or purchased VC to be accessible across both current and next-generation versions of NBA 2K21 in the same console family.

NBA 2K21 will be available worldwide on PlayStation® 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch™, Windows PC and Google Stadia on September 4, 2020 and is available for pre-order today! NBA 2K21 will also be available on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X as a launch title this holiday. Look for more details on https://nba.2k.com/.
