Posted by Raphael Leynes August 28, 2020

Following the success of the recently concluded, FIBA Esports Open, The NBA 2K20: The Pacific Pro-Am Tournament will pit 8 of the strongest NBA 2K20 esports clubs in Asia to battle it out for virtual hoops supremacy and a massive 10, 000 USD Prize pool (500, 000 PHP)! All the games will be livestreamed on GG Network and One Sports social media pages for a total of 2 days throughout August 29-30!

The NBA 2K20 Pacific Pro-Am Tournament is poised to be one of the biggest NBA 2K tournaments in Asia this year and will feature the top teams from the region namely: PLAYBOOK LAUS ESPORTS (PHI), BADBOYS (PHI), THE ANSWER (TPE), SECRETLOVES (HKG), TAKE OVER (INA), PROMY (KOR), TEAM TEKONG (SGP), and 2KJ (JPN).

The tournament will be using NBA 2K20’s Pro-Am mode, a fan-favorite mode where each player of the respective teams will be controlling one specific position or character throughout the whole game much like in a real-world game of basketball. To ensure the safety and high-performance of each of the participating teams, all the games in the entirety of the tournament will be played solely online via Playstation 4.

PlayBook Esports, will form the core of the Philippine team. The players of PlayBook Esports are the same players that represented the Philippines in the recently concluded FIBA Esports Open. Supported by Smart Communications, the Dream Team of Philippine NBA 2K Pro-Am mode swept Team Indonesia in a series of matches last June.

Jane Basas, Head Senior VP, Consumer Business Wireless, also had this to say about the importance of the tournament, in light of the current situation of the world:

“It is both an incredible honor and a privilege to be able to bear the torch of athletic competition during these trying times and at the same time, bring some much-needed joy, unity, and pride to our respective countries. We will do right by that responsibility”

Tournament Format

The two-day epic competition will consist of a single round, best-of-five elimination stage and a Playoff stage.

In the Playoffs, the remaining teams will enter a Top 4 Single Elimination Bracket with a Best of Five per match. The Number 1 Team from each group will play the Number 2 team from the opposite group. The Final 2 teams will play in a Best of 5 Grand Finals for the title of the first-ever NBA 2K20The Pacific Pro-Am Tournament Champion and a huge chunk of the 10, 000 USD Prize Pool!

The NBA 2K20 Pacific Pro-Am Tournament is the latest brainchild from Playbook Esports Gariath Concepts, the company responsible for Rev Major and ESGS and is fully supported by the esports governing bodies PESO and ESNAP as well as Smart

We’re excited to bring to life a historic tournament that shines the spotlight on the best NBA 2K20 teams in Asia. PEsO is honored to help promote the NBA 2K scene not only in the Philippines, but the whole region as well” said Brian Lim, President of PEsO.

With the success of the recently concluded FIBA Esports Open, the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas reaffirms its commitment to grow basketball in the Philippines and the world, especially at a time when physical sports are at a standstill due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The SBP continues to support Philippine basketball, even the virtual kind, and we are enthusiastic about the possibilities that The Pacific Pro-Am Tournament would bring in fostering greater ties between the Philippines and other countries,” said Al Panlilio, SBP President.
