SEA Games 2019: PHI Sibol National Team Secures Podium Finish in SCII and Dota 2 Esports Events
Posted by cmsadminGG December 08, 2019

The second and third day of the esports events at the 30th Southeast Asian Games hosted the playoffs of Hearthstone, StarCraft 2, and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, as well as the group stages of the Arena of Valor and Dota 2 events. While the competition was definitely fierce, Caviar Napoleon “EnDerr” Acampado and the Dota 2 team of the Philippine Sibol national team were both able to secure podium finishes.

Acampado is assured at least a silver medal in the StarCraft II event after besting Vietnam’s Hong Phuc Tran in the upper bracket finals in an incredibly close 2-3 match. Acampado will face Singaporean Thomas Kopankiewicz in the grand finals on December 10, 2019.

In the Hearthstone event, third-seeded players Werit Popan from Thailand and Malaysia’s Hendry Yew were both able to climb their way to the grand finals. Popan was able to beat not only Vietnam’s Hoang Long Nguyen but also top-seeded Indonesian Hendry Koentarto. As for Yew, he successfully climbed back up from the lower bracket against Thailand’s Aukit Kittikrairit, Vietnam’s Nguyen, and Singaporean Khai Kiat Chew. Popan and Yew will face off in the grand finals to be held on December 9, 2019.

The second day also saw the Philippine ML:BB squad (1-0-2) advance to the playoffs of the event, finishing the stage as the second seed in their group behind Indonesia (2-0-1). The Philippines will face Singapore (1-0-3) in the lower bracket of the playoffs while Indonesia will be up against the top-seeded Malaysia (2-0-2) in the upper bracket finals.

The Dota 2 team of the Philippine Sibol national team (2-0-1) was also able to advance to the playoffs as the top seed of their group, they will be facing fellow top-seeded team Vietnam (2-0-1) in the upper bracket finals. The other two teams who successfully advanced to the playoffs include Thailand (2-0-1) as well Laos (2-1-0).

Unfortunately, the third day was not all victories for the Philippine Sibol national team as the Arena of Valor squad (1-2-0) was unable to advance to the playoffs. Heading to the next stage of the event will be Thailand (2-0-1), Vietnam (2-0-1), Indonesia (1-0-2), and Malaysia (1-0-2).

The playoffs of the Dota 2 and Arena of Valor events will be held on December 8, 2019, along with the grand finals of the ML:BB event. The grand finals of both Dota 2 and AoV will be held on December 9, 2019. The last esports event of the 2019 SEA Games, Tekken 7, will be held on December 10, 2019, along with the finals of the StarCraft II event.
