The first grand final match of the esports events at the 30th Southeast Asian Games have officially concluded and the Philippines has secured the first ever gold medal for an esports event at the SEA Games after besting the Indonesia in a close and action-packed 3-2 grand finals match.

Coming into the grand finals of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports event, Indonesia was favored to win the gold as they won most of their matches in the group and playoff stages, only dropping one game in the group stage against the Philippines leading to a draw. On the other hand, the second-seeded Philippine Sibol national team had the challenge of climbing their way up from the lower bracket against tough competition from Vietnam and Malaysia.

The Filipinos began the grand finals strong with a win in the first game but Indonesia bounced back hard with two straight wins and putting them at match point. The Philippine Sibol national team for ML:BB now claim the historic first ever gold medal for an esports event at the SEA Games while Indonesia and Malaysia secure the silver and bronze medals, respectively.

The Philippine Sibol national team have also secured a finals spot and at least a silver medal finish in the Dota 2 event as they swept Vietnam 2-0 in the upper bracket finals today. Vietnam had a second chance to secure a finals spot but fell to Thailand in the lower bracket finals.
