The first grand final match of the esports events at the 30th Southeast Asian Games have officially concluded and the Philippines has secured the first ever gold medal for an esports event at the SEA Games after besting the Indonesia in a close and action-packed 3-2 grand finals match.
Coming into the grand finals of the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang esports event, Indonesia was favored to win the gold as they won most of their matches in the group and playoff stages, only dropping one game in the group stage against the Philippines leading to a draw. On the other hand, the second-seeded Philippine Sibol national team had the challenge of climbing their way up from the lower bracket against tough competition from Vietnam and Malaysia.
