HTC Vive Pro releases this April for USD 799

After its reveal last January at CES 2018, HTC recently announced that the Vive Pro Head Mounted Display (HMD) will be available this April 2018 with a price tag of USD 799. Pre-orders are now up in regions where the Vive Pro will be available. All Vive Pro’s purchased until June 3 will also receive a free six-month trial to Viveport Subscription, HTC’s service that enables users to download and play up to 5 VR titles per month.

Aside from the price reveal for the Vive Pro, HTC also announced that the original Vive unit will receive a price-reduction of USD 100, meaning that the Vive full kit is now available for USD 499.

“With the Vive Pro we are delivering the best quality display and visual experience to the most discerning VR enthusiasts. Our goal has always been to offer the most premium VR platform available and to drive adoption for VR,” said Daniel O’Brien, HTC Vive General Manager, US. “By lowering the price of the current Vive, we are making VR more accessible while expanding the potential market for developers. Whether you’re a VR enthusiast or new to the platform, there’s never been a better time to join the most complete VR platform available.”

The HTC Vive Pro is an improved version of HTC’s Vive Virtual Reality headset. The Vive Pro features a display resolution of 2880 x 1600, 78 percent higher than the first Vive’s 2160×1200 resolution. The Vive Pro also comes with integrated headphones, dual microphones, dual front-facing cameras, and a design that maximizes wearer comfort.
